About
Florida Tech American Meteorological Society Student Chapter
The Florida Institute of Technology's student chapter of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) is an organization dedicated to advancing the science and understanding of weather, water, and climate. As a registered student organization of Florida Tech, our chapter's mission is to cultivate a passion for meteorology through a wide range of educational activities, field trips, seminars, guest lectures, and hands-on experiences led by our dedicated faculty.
Over the past few years, we have experienced exponential growth, attracting members from diverse backgrounds, all united by a shared fascination and love for meteorology. Our chapter has organized numerous impactful events, including hosting SkyWarn training sessions in collaboration with the local National Weather Service, inviting esteemed guest speakers for seminars and lectures, and organizing visits to pivotal meteorological institutions such as the National Hurricane Center, the National Weather Service Office in Melbourne, and the 45th Weather Squadron at Patrick Space Force Base.
We also launched our sub-club, Panther Weather Service, designed to encourage student involvement in weather forecasting and communication. Through this service, students record weather briefings and post informative videos on social media to keep both the student body and faculty updated on current weather conditions. Our chapter is highly engaged in campus life and committed to outreach events that promote meteorological awareness. We take pride in fostering a collaborative environment that encourages student participation in forecasting, communication, and public engagement.
